ITINERARY
Day
1 - Darwin to Victoria River
We begin
our adventure travelling south down ‘The Track’ (The Stuart
Highway) to Edith Falls where we take a break for a refreshing
swim. Travelling further south we then have a brief stop at
Katherine Gorge before heading west towards the Western Australia
wilderness. We set up camp beside the Victoria River for our
first night together.
Overnight bush camp (LD) (Bush Camp)
Day
2 - Victoria River to Kununurra
Up early
this morning as we cross the border into Western Australia.
We visit the largest man made lake in Australia - Lake Argyle
and explore the area before heading for the capital of the
north - Kununurra and our overnight campsite.
(BLD) (Caravan Park)
Day
3- Kununurra to the Bungle Bungles
Explore
Kununurra, the town of the Ord River Scheme and the scenic
Hidden Valley National Park. Then sit back and admire the
awesome views of the Carr Boyd and Durack Ranges as we head
to Turkey Creek. It’s now time to buckle up and hold on for
the challenging 4WD trip into the Bungle Bungle (Purnululu)
National Park for sunset over the Osmond Ranges and our camp.
(BLD) (Campgound)
Day
4 - Bungle Bungles National Park
We spend
a full day exploring the unusual rock formations of the Bungle
Bungle Ranges, visiting the unique Frog Hole, the breathtaking
Echidna Chasm and the magnificent Cathedral Gorge. There is
also time for the optional scenic helicopter flight (at
own expense) over the Bungles. We complete our day
with another amazing sunset.
(BLD) (Campground)
Day
5- Bungle Bungles to Parry Farm
Leaving
the Bungle Bungles, we take a short break at Turkey Creek
before travelling onto Wyndham and the Five Rivers Lookout.
Overnight camp at Diggers Rest Cattle
Station (The station is a 90-minute drive from
Kununurra and when it comes to the outback, this is about
as outback as you can get. The roads leading to Digger's Rest
deter the tourist buses, but are an easy piece for any 4WD
or high clearance vehicle and at The Digger's Rest Station
there are some 2,500 Brahmans Cattle.)
or at Parry Farm (Parry Creek Farm and Marlgu
Billabong are located along the Parry Creek Road, the old
(and unsealed) highway from Kununurra to Wyndham. Parry Creek
Farm is a tourist development that offers accommodation and
has a small restaurant and cafe.)
Overnight
camp at Diggers Rest Cattle Station or Parry Farm - depending
on the time of year.
(BLD) (Campgound)
Day
6- Gibb River Road & Gorges
We tackle
the punishing Gibb River Road stopping along the way to visit
the famous El Questro Station before enjoying a walk in the
beautiful Cockburn Range and a swim under the waterfall in
Emma Gorge. We cross the Pentecost River and travel through
the spectacular ranges, before heading for our overnight bush
camp (no facilities).
(BLD) (Campground)
Day
7- Gibb River Road & Gorges
A day
of swimming and hiking as we explore some of the striking
gorges - maybe Barnett, Manning, Galvins or Adcock depending
on the time of year.
Overnight bush camp. (BLD) (Campground)
Day
8 - King Leopold Range to Windjana Gorge
We enjoy
an early hike and swim at Bell or Leonard Gorge before experiencing
the splendour of the King Leopold Range travelling to Windjana
Gorge. After lunch, we wade through the icy waters of
the mysterious Tunnel Creek to explore the incredible
limestone formations. We camp overnight at Windjana Gorge
National Park.
(BLD) (Campground)
Day
9 - Windjana to Broome
We view
the abundant wildlife of Windjana Gorge including freshwater
crocodiles and explore the 350 million year old fossilised
reef wall rising 90 metres above the riverbed. We call in
at Derby, visiting the famous Boab Prison Tree before
continuing on to Broome for sunset on beautiful Cable Beach.

ATTENTION:
The Darwin <> Broome 9 Day 4WD Safari has unique temperature,
activity, and operational considerations not experienced elsewhere
in Australia. The Kimberley is one of the most isolated, remote
places in the world. It doesn't have the usual comforts and
options of our other touring areas. We think this lack of
conveniences is the REAL reason to visit this area and is
what makes it so special and memorable for a lifetime.
