Tasmania
is located off the southeast corner of mainland Australia.
It is Australia's smallest state in terms of both size and
population, yet is a major tourist attraction due to the diverse
and spectacular scenery, unspoilt wilderness and rich history.
Spectacular
views and world renowned wilderness, clean air, cool fresh
water, rich soil and gourmet produce are proof that Tasmania
has been truly blessed by Nature.
Discover the precious jewel in Australia's south with Adventure
Tours, Australia's leading small group tour operator.
Itinerary:
1st
November 2007 - 31st March 2009
Journey
with us to Australia's southern most point; Cockle
Creek in Tasmania which is situated approximately 120km south
of Hobart, in the South West National Park. At
Cockle Creek there is nothing between you and Antarctica except
the vast Southern Ocean.
We travel along the famous Huon Trail alongside superb
fruit orchards. Our first stop is Geeveston, known as 'Tasmania's
Forest Town' with wooden sculptures throughout the town
representing various iconic locals. There is also the opportunity
to visit the Forest and Heritage Centre which provides interpretation
on forest history and its importance.
We continue onto Cockle Creek, entering the South West National
Park. This area has big history which involves whaling, saw
milling, mining and at least 40,000 years of indigenous habitation.
Here, take the opportunity to relax on the pristine coastline
of Recherche Bay or take a walk along the coast to
the 'Bottom of the World' (approx 2 hours return) or
you may prefer a journey on (Australia's southern most railway)
the Ida Bay Bush Railway (own expense).
After a relaxing lunch on the beach, we travel north to the
Tahune Airwalk. One of the longest treetop walks in
Australia which in places is 40m above the forest floor and
Huon River. If you've got energy to spare check out
the new Indiana Jones style suspension bridge across the river,
learn about the forest on an interpretive walk with your guide
or simply relax in the cafe' and enjoy the serenity! The daredevils
amongst us will be keen to try Eagle Hang Gliding (at own
expense), which provides the opportunity to soar like a bird
amongst the tree tops!
As the day winds to an end we travel back to Hobart, arriving
in the early evening (approximately 6.30pm).
